This is for parents, teachers, and any other adult who wants to improve a child's reading. The Cool Rain Academy is being designed to help children learn to read, particularly children who are struggling. It isn't ready yet! I'm just barely starting to put it together. Eventually I'm going to offer a curriculum, but right now I'm just hoping to assemble some good stories for kids to read. The aim is to make the reading very simple while the concepts in the stories are more advanced; this reflects the needs of kids who read at a lower grade level than their social and intellectual development, and their interests, would indicate. These stories will be sorted according to the approximate grade level of the reading required, and the approximate age level of the subject matter. Not all will be fiction; there are some folks out there who only like factual articles. There will also be games designed to strengthen a child's reading skills, and children will be encouraged to send in stories and articles that they have written. I hope that you will be able to sit at your computer with your child and read with them. If not, as much of this website as possible is set up to accomodate a child who has internet access but needs to improve his or her reading (and there are plenty out there). In cases where you cannot bring the internet to the child, please print the stories and read with them. If possible, print the pictures as well. Pictures help keep a child's interest high. Do
